West Wight Road Runners (July 31st 2005)
There was a good turnout of club runners for the Brighstone ‘10’, which is also the club’s 10-mile championship for the Jim Rush Cup. Two first places were achieved. Paul Cameron not only won the cup, but was also almost 3 minutes clear of the entire field in 57.31. ‘Magic’ Madeline Goodman added to her prizes, with first place in the women’s over 55 category in 84.20. The club’s other female competitor, Hilary Searle was 2nd in her age group in 82.22. In the team competition, the club finished 2nd to Ryde Harriers, with Ian Jolliffe collecting another pw in 69.43, and Mike Green achieving 71.11 on remarkably little training. The club’s second team (Danny Mannion, 71.33; Terry Whale 79.01; Stewart Cox 81.47) was also pipped by one position by Ryde Harriers. The club’s contingent was completed by Vic Loveday (83.36) and George Woods (84.08).
This Sunday, August 7th, sees the club’s 6th Annual Children’s Fun Run. This was postponed from two weeks earlier due to atrocious weather. There are one-mile runs from the West Wight Sports Centre, starting at 11am for 9-15 year-olds, and 11.30 for under 9s. The course is a safe one, mainly around playing fields, and parents are welcome to accompany their children in the run. All (non-adult) finishers receive a medal.
