The Isle of Wight Fell Running Series consists of three races over a single weekend: 3 miles and 8 miles on Saturday and 13 miles on Sunday. Two West Wight Road Runners completed all three races, with Hilary Searle having an excellent weekend, finishing first in her age group overall. The Series incorporates the South of England Championship, so the club can now boast the over-40 South of England Fell Running Champion. Dave Baker was also impressive, finishing all three races for the sixth consecutive year, for 8th in his age group.
Three other club members attempted a subset of the races. Nina and Bill French completed both the Saturday races, with Nina finishing 2nd in her age group in both races and Bill 5th and 4th in his. Ian Jolliffe tackled only one of the three races, finishing 6th in his age group in the 8 mile race.
Now the darker evenings have arrived, the club meets at West Wight Sports Centre, Moa Place, Freshwater, on Wednesdays for runs around well-lit streets, setting off at 7pm.
