From the sun of California to mud of Smallbrook

Soon after the Stubbington 10k race, club member Hilary Searle headed off for Hawaii. En route she managed to take in the Carlsbad Half-Marathon, just up the coast from San Diego in Southern California. On a lovely undulating course alongside the Pacific she finished in 1.43.18. The race was unusual in having more women competitors than men. Hilary impressively finished in the first 100 of the 2396 women, 5th in her age-category.

Closer to home, four club members ran as guests in Ryde Harriers cross-country championships. Paul Cameron led the field home in the fast time of 44.05. Ian Jolliffe was 6th, Dave Baker 11th, and Bill French, who decided to take a slightly different (longer) route than the rest of the field, was 14th.
