Eight WWRR travelled over for the forth HRRL race, the Hayling 10 mile on Sunday November 26th. Although a crisp, dry autumn day there was a strong swirling breeze throughout, with what seemed to be only occasionally on our backs. There was a good field of 529 men and 256 ladies, and the ‘a’ team did the club proud recording forth place of the eleven teams, which moved us upto forth place overall in the second division, and only two points off a promotion place!
First WWRR home was Simon McMorran, who was pleased to achieve another pb of 61.46 for 46th position and also first Islander to finish. Andrew McEwan also ran another pb, coming home in 101st position in 66.09, with Danny Manion again running strongly to finish in 117th place in a time of 67.21. Ian Jolliffe, returning from injury completed the ‘a’team with his 146th place, and 3rd V60, in 68.40. Next WWRR home was Mike Green in 170th place in 71.11, with Paul Scivier in 290th in 77.16, and Vic Loveday home in 413th in a time of 85.05. This was the first time this season the club has had a scoring ‘b’ team which has also seen us move half a dozen places up in the division. Our one lady competing was Madeline Goodman, who came home in 120 place in a time of 85.18.
While it was encouraging to see a strong mens contingent competing, the ladies team are keen to build upon their early season success by putting out full teams of three as often as possible. The next race is the Victory 5 on Sunday 3rd December.
