Four WWRR braved the elements to compete in the fifth HRRL race, the Victory 5 on December 3rd. The weather conditions were appalling, with gale force winds, rain and a little hail for good measure. A total of 778 runners completed this well organised traffic free course, which starts and finishes on the track at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth. The club again entered a full men’s team and all ran well to consolidate their current fifth place in division two, and they remain just three points behind City of Portsmouth in second place.
First WWRR home was Simon McMorran, who although well on course to break thirty minutes was confronted by the strong winds in his face over the last mile. He was still pleased to finish in 82nd place in another pb of 30.16. Paul Scivier ran strongly to finish 194th in a good time of 34.19. Ed Garbett, running his first race for over a year following injury was well pleased with his 341st place in 39.10, and was closely followed by Vic Loveday, who ran strongly to finish in 370th place in 40.34.
The next race is the Stubbington 10K on January 14th, and with entries now closed the club has sixteen runners entered.
