This years IOW County XC Championships were held on Sunday 18th Feb in Ryde, and although the weather was dry the seven mile challenging course was as wet and muddy as always. This was an ideal preparation for the clubs own XC next week though unfortunately only three WWRR took part, with another marshalling due to illness.
The guys that ran did the club proud romping home in first, second and third places. Paul Cameron leading right from the start, came home a convincing County Champion again in a time of 44.27, which is his quickest time over the course. Ian Joliffe ran strongly to come home second overall and first V60 in a time of 55.59, some four minutes quicker than his last race here a few weeks ago. Andrew McEwan, running for the first time on the course was well clear in second place when he unfortunately went off course. Re-joining the race in fifth place he ran strongly in the last mile to take third place in the last few metres in a time of 56.10. Andrew was also rewarded with first V40, not bad after running twenty miles in training the previous day. The day was rounded off with the team successfully defending to team title they won last year.
Another reminder that the clubs own XC Championships is taking place on Sun 25th at Ningwood, starting at 10am.
