Six WWRR joined the field of 66 for the seventy fifth running of the Newport to Ryde seven mile road race. The conditions were ideal, warm though with a very light breeze, although the course was extremely challenging. Running this for the first time I’m sure its tougher and even more undulating than the Ryde ten, especially the first mile which is entirely uphill!
The club had a successful day with Paul Cameron leading from the start and recording his fastest time on the course in an excellent 38 mins 14 seconds. Second WWRR home was Simon McMorran, who ran solidly for 9th place in 45.07. Ed Garbett came home next in 29th place in 53.06, anchoring the team to second place overall. Stewart Cox ran strongly for 45th place and 60.09, and was closely followed by Madeline Goodman in 46th place in 60.21, and first lady V55. The team were brought home by Vic Loveday in a time of 63.15 which gave Vic third V60.
The next race on the calendar is the West Wight Three Hills on Easter Monday, which also doubles up as a club championship race.
