The Marwell 10K road race was run in very hot conditions on Sunday 29th April. The testing course starts and finishes at Marwell Zoo, taking in some undulating country lanes around Owslebury, which included a testing hill opposite Marwell House right at the start and again at the finish. Among the field of 930 was Simon McMorran .
The first half of the race saw a number of testing inclines, while the second part is far kinder. This is easily demonstrated by Simon’s split times which were over a minute different, as opposed to a two second differential at Eastleigh. Simon was pleased to finish in 22nd place, in a time of 38.38, which gave him 4th V40. Even the leading runners were recording much slower times than courses such as Eastleigh & Stubbington.
Simon also ran recently as a guest in the Ryde club championships over a seven mile road circuit. With a good turn out of around 20 he settled into the leading group of six as the pace picked up through Brading and Smallbrook. Over the last mile things picked up further with Pete Young & Lee Cuppis from the host club battling it out in a close finish. Simon was pleased to come home first with six seconds separating the first three.
Ryde hold a series of track &road races over the summer which are open to guest runners. All start at 7.30 & further details can be found on the Ryde Harriers website.
