A field of eight contested the Ryde 10.000m club championship track race at Sandown on the evening of July 17th, in ideal running conditions, with Simon competing as a guest. With the impressive Rod Parker pulling away from the start, Simon ran his own race plan throughout with the two of them finishing some three laps ahead of the third runner. Running some extremely consistent splits throughout Simon came home in second place in a very pleasing 37.05 to Rod’s 36.35.
The next race on the Island is the half marathon on August 19th. Given that the team won the team prize last year with Simon, Andrew McEwen and Pete Boynton, it would be encouraging to see a good turn out from the club, especially with the new league season starting in September.
