On a very warm, airless evening of August 8th Simon travelled over to Portsmouth for the last of the summer 5km road races. For the first time in ages, the runners were met with windless conditions on this fast, flat, out and back course. A good field of 197 started the race with Simon well up from the start.
Still aiming to go under eighteen minutes as a vet, he soon established a comfortable pace and was on course for his target after 3km. Digging in hard in the final 2km, which he ran in 3.29 and 3.35. Simon was extremely pleased to come home in 17mins and 55secs, for 28th place overall and 4th V45.
