With a winter like snow blizzard covering the Island nine members or West Wight Road Runners bravely set out to travel to Totton for the Hampshire Road Race League 10K event.
The club fielded both a full men’s and women’s team, who were rewarded with steadily improving weather. By the 11:00 start the conditions were a little cool but otherwise perfect for the race over the flat course around the streets of Totton.
The men’s team produced a good overall team performance with Gareth Knight finishing in 41:03 for 108th (30th V40), Ian Jolliffe 41:20 114th and an excellent 4th in the V60 category, Michel Green finished in 43:20 155th and 75th Snr, Eric Critchison beat the 50 min mark with 49:46 scoring his first Hampshire Road Race points for the club in 273rd (124th Snr), closely followed by Victor Loveday 50:45 who was 283rd and 22nd V60.
The ladies were lead home by Anne Ballingall in 52:33 for a steadily improving 89th and a 17th V45 followed by Kay Cronin running for the Club for the first time in 55:25 for 118th and 47th snr, Lora Hassan-Hicks was the third scoring road runner with 57:37 (59th Snr) and placed 142nd , with Clair Critchison close behind in 58:30 (62nd Snr) and placed 148th. There were 627 finishers both men and women.
It was a great turnout and I hope will have consolidated our mid table position with two more races to go this year in the league.
