The Alton 10

Seven runners travelled to Alton for the Hampshire Road Race League 10 mile race. With team members finishing either side of midday temperatures during the latter stage of the run reached 24 degrees centigrade. Whilst this took its toll on finish times, it did nothing to effect the determination of the runners to do well.

First home was Andrew McEwan in 71min 26sec for a very creditable 81st male finisher, he was followed by Gareth Knight in 74min 44sec for 111th male finisher. The third team member was Ian Jolliffe in 76min 38sec for 131st male and the last scoring team member was Eric Critchison in 94min 25sec finishing as 289th male and running over the ten mile distance for the first time. It was good to see Stewart Cox return to competitive road running with 97min 29sec in 306th and Victor Loveday completed the six strong male team with 1h 40min 24sec.

Yet again the performance of the day came from Madeline Goodman with third place in the women’s V55 category with 88min 35sec and was 57th placed in the women’s race.
