The Overton 5

Eight West Wight Road Runners made the trip to the first event of the 2008-2009 Hampshire Road Race League, the Overton 5. Weather conditions were good as the threatened rain held off for the duration of the race.

The Ladies team made a magnificent start to their season in Division 3, finishing 2nd out of 11 teams. Leading them home as usual was Madeline Goodman in 41.14, with Anne Ballingall in 42.45 and Chris Amy in 44.09 not far behind.

Some of the regular male runners were unavoidably absent and two of those running were nursing injuries, but the team made a solid start, finishing 8th in Division 2. Only 6 minutes covering the 5 runners with Andrew McEwan leading the way in 38.06, closely followed by Steve Dines in an impressive 39.17. Paul Scivier was next in 40.41, with Brian Amy making a rare appearance in 43.09. Always reliable Vic Loveday completed the contingent.

With the light evenings gone, the club meets at West Wight Sports Centre, Moa Place, Freshwater, on Wednesdays for runs around well-lit streets, setting off at 7.15pm. New members are always welcome.
