The fourth round of the Hampshire Road Race League, on the 16th of November saw West Wight Road Runners compete in the Gosport Half Marathon. The new fast flat course and good weather eventually lead to a collection of excellent finishing times, however a congested start and an initially narrow race route caused some frustration for the first mile and a half.
The race effectively divided into three races between West Wight team members as they passed and counter passed one another during the race. At the front the contest was won by Andrew McEwen finishing as first team member in 1h29m24s, 192nd place with Gareth Knight close behind in 1h 29m36s and 197th. Next to finish was Ian Jolliffe in 1h35m23s winning his battle with Paul Scivier in a time of 1h35m42s, finishing 308th and 315th respectively. Madeline Goodman came out on top with 1h55m00s in a three way contest with Eric Critchison 1h56m52s and Victor Loveday 1h57m50s finishing 791st, 828th and 854th respectively.
The healthy competition lead the men’s team to a best of season 5th place for the race and saw them climb to fifth overall in the leagues second division.
