With many members involved in Walk the Wight and other attractions, Ian Jolliffe was the sole representative of West Wight Road Runners at the Netley 10k. He finished as 4th over-60 in a time of 43.19.
This was the final race of 12 in the 2008-2009 Hampshire Road Race league. In this league, overall positions of teams and individuals are based on their best 7 or 8 performances from the 12. In the team leagues, West Wight men’s team put in a solid performance maintained their position in Division 2, while the ladies had an excellent season, but will spend another year in Division 3, having been pipped for promotion by the narrowest of margins by Isle of Wight Road Runners.
A hallmark of the team’s performance is the reliability of a number of members who turn out for most of the races, meaning that the club’s positions in the leagues are above those of some much bigger clubs. With well over 1000 runners competing in at least one league race, the positions of Madeline Goodman (41st) in the ladies overall ranking and Andrew McEwan (42nd) and Gareth Knight (51st) in the men were outstanding. Ian Jolliffe, Paul Scivier, and Vic Loveday also achieved creditable positions.
