HOME AND ABROAD
April and May have been a time of successes and disappointments for the West Wight Road Runners.
April 21st Julian Trout had run his first London Marathon in a time of 4 hours 23 minutes.
Ian Joliffe became a European champion at the Copenhagen Amager Standpark Park Run. He became the M65 – 69 Champion for the event on April 27th, in a time of 22.03 mins and in 10th place overall.
April 28th Andrew McEwan completed the Manchester Marathon in a time of 3.00.39 making him the 9th person in his catergory home. Andrew really enjoyed the day and would highly recommend this marathon for its fast flat course, good organisation and friendly supporters.
Only 4 runners were able to compete in the Alton 10 mile race on Sunday May 5th; Julian and Julia Trout, Andrew McEwan and Cherry Owens. Andrew was first home for the club in a PB time for this course 1.04.41 and was 5th in his category. Julian Trout was next in for the club in a time of 1.25.29 followed by Cherry Owens and Julia Trout in times of 1.38.23 (1st V+65 lady) and 1.43.50 respectively. Julia completed the course despite injuries to both feet.
The disappointment for the club this season is that, due to injuries and other factors and with only two races to go, there was no chance for the Men’s or Women’s team to avoid relegation from the 2nd division of the Hampshire Road Race League.
The club would really welcome new members happy to compete in races next season. Please log onto our website for more details.
