West Wight Road RunnersFIVE members competed in the penultimate Hampshire Road Race League event, the Alton ten miles.The most successful was again Madeline Goodman, who won the over-55 category for the third successive year. Her time of 82.34 was just outside her course record but faster than last year.Ian Jolliffe was the first male member home in 94th position out of 550 finishers and was surprised to find himself third in the 50 to 59 age group.Terry Whale outsprinted Ryde Harrier rival Alan Whitewood in 71.00 and Tanner Hassan-Hicks (80.29) sneaked by Stewart Cox (80.53) in the last mile.The latter improved by more than three minutes compared to last year. In the team event, West Wight finished one position ahead of rivals Ryde Harriers.During the spring and summer, the club meets on Wednesday evenings at various scenic venues across West Wight for runs of between three and six miles, mainly off-road. On Wednesday they meet at 7pm at the Longstone car park, Mottistone. Non-members are welcome.
