The IOW Marathon and the (Virtual) London Marathon
What a day to remember - well done everyone who ran a marathon!
This included a Charity fundraising Marathon - Cherry and Christine ran (in ‘hero’ costumes) the London 2020 for Home-Start Isle of Wight. See justgiving page
The Weather: to quote phrases from various club members: “typical British weather!” “Sodden and bedraggled”
Phil summed it up well: “WWRR on marathon missions today, awesome effort from all of you. Conditions were so grim!”
Our club members participated in (at least) 3 ways:-
- ran IOW Marathon as a Virtual London Marathon
- ran the IOW Marathon, per se
- Cherry and Christine ran 26.2 miles, across the island, as a Virtual London Marathon
From Christine:- “WWRRs is a tiny club but we fielded an amazing number of runners and supporters yesterday. Paul W, Rog, Eric and Claire completed the VLM by taking on the IOW marathon and I know that Megan and Wendy were amongst those that marshalled. Cherry and I fought our way across the island and very much appreciated all those who turned up where our path came close to civilisation. I cannot express how much it meant to me to see you. Lisa deserves a special mention for taking on the role of carer/communicator whilst also running the last half of our course with us!”
