Boxing Day 2018 Needles Run

Meet in the Freshwater Bay Car Park on 26th December for an informal fun run.
It is not organised by any one club or individual, it just seems to happen.Visitors and first-timers are most welcome. Hope you can join in.
Start time: 11am. Distance: about 6.5 miles or 4 miles if you turn around at the Beacon.
The Route: from Freshwater Bay head out on Gate Lane then follow the footpath to the Beacon. From the Beacon, carry on to West High Down – the western tip of the Isle of Wight.
Most runners continue to the "Needles Viewpoint" which is near the New Battery. Then turn around and return to the beacon. Continue up to the Tennyson Monument, and follow the path down through a field, and back to the Car Park.

A few notes about the run:-
  • Starting as a group is for reasons of sociability and fun (and is not essential)
  • Take care of slippery mud, roots, stones, fallen branches e.t.c.
  • If the weather is poor, consider shortening your route
  • Dogs are often brought along and are best kept on a lead initially.
  • Fancy dress - optional
  • At the end some runners take a short dip in the sea!
  • Many adjourn to a pub or cafe for a drink/chat afterwards – arranged informally
